Cyclone Michaung: National Disaster Response Force on Alert
Cyclone “Michaung” is expected to hit the West-central Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts on December 4 forenoon, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed 21 teams for rescue and relief operations, according to information from National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) announced Sunday morning.
Educational Institutions Close in NTR District for Two Days
The district collector announced holidays for all educational institutions located within AP’s NTR district on December 4 and 5.

The government encouraged private companies in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu districts to offer employees working from home an option as part of their employment contracts.
International Meteorological Department’s Heavy Rainfall Warning in Tamil Nadu
As part of cyclone season, parts of north coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, coastal Andhra Pradesh Rayalaseema Telangana Odisha may experience rain with variable intensities across these four areas.
Cyclone Michaung is expected to make landfall between Nellore and Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh with winds that may reach speeds up to 100 kmph in the early hours of Tuesday morning, according to current projections.

IMD Issues Alert On December 4, the IMD issued Yellow Warning as heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) is likely at one or two locations across Malkangiri, Koraput Rayagada Gajapati Ganjam on Thursday afternoon and evening. Light to moderate rain may also fall at multiple sites across these districts as well as Puri; light-to-moderate rain or thundershowers could occur in Kandhamal Nabarangpur Kalahandi Nayagarh Khurda Jagatsinghpur Cuttack as well as in several other parts of Orissa on Thursday night/Friday morning/ Saturday night/ Sunday night/ Saturday/ Sunday evening/ Monday depending on local conditions & rainfall pattern on thursday/ 6/12/18/18 at one or two places across these districts/state; these may include Puri and one or two places depending on where heavy rainfall falls/ occurs/or occurs/ may even impact remaining parts of Orissa/cutoff points/puri depending on severity/thunderstorm showers or occur at many places around Malkangiri Koraput Raygada Gajapti Ganjam Puri Puri on December 4th as well. On December 5, the IMD issued an orange warning (be prepared) and predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall (7-20 cm) may hit one or two locations within Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam districts.
Warning, and predicts heavy rainfall of 7-11 cm to occur at one or more places in Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Puri.
Cyclone Michaung: Train Cancellations
Railways in Myanmar have cancelled a total of 118 trains due to Cyclone Michaung. East Coast Railway (ECoR) alone cancelled 60 services while setting up a round-the-clock helpline to provide information and assist passengers during this natural disaster.
Officials from ECoR stated that an early recovery plan has been prepared in case the cyclone damages train traffic or tracks.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday revealed that he has remained in constant communication with state chief ministers from Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh on the Eastern coast arranging for relief and rescue operations in anticipation of Cyclone Michaung.
Low-lying areas have been advised to reach cyclone shelters as early as possible in case of a storm.
The government recently advised Greater Chennai Corporation commissioner and district collectors to house those living in vulnerable areas in cyclone shelters, while those in low-lying areas have been asked to reach these shelters early. Citizens have also been cautioned against going near waterbodies or taking selfies near waterbodies or parking vehicles under trees.
